Title:
NOVEL CHLORINATED HYDROCARBON
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JPS5668622
Kind Code:
A
Abstract:

NEW MATERIAL:Optical active or racemic 7-chloromethyl-1,7-dimethyltricyclo[2, 2,1,02,6]heptane shown by the formula I.

USE: An intermediate for α-santalol (a main ingredient of sandalwood oil important as spice).

PROCESS: Camphor shown by the formula II is brominated to give 3-bromocamphor shown by the formula III. This 3-bromocamphor is chlorinated in the presence of chlorosulfonic acid, to give 3-bromo-9-chlorocamphor shown by the formula IV. This compound is reacted with acetic acid and zinc to give 9-chlorocamphor shown by the formula V, which is reacted with hydrazine hydrate and hydrazine hydrochloride in the presence of triethylene glycol to give a reaction product, to which mercury oxide is added, and the prepared product is refluxed in anhydrous methanol as a solvent, to give a compound shown by the formula I.
