PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide novel, herbicidally active cyclic diones, and derivatives thereof, processes for their preparation, compositions comprising those compounds, and their use in controlling weeds, especially weeds in crops of useful plants, or in inhibiting undesired plant growth.SOLUTION: Compounds of formula (I) are suitable for use as herbicides. (In the formula, A is a substituted mono- or bicyclic aryl, where the aryl refers to phenyl or naphthyl, and the other substituents are as defined in claim 1.)
