NEW MATERIAL:A penicillanic acid shown by the formula I (R1WR3 are H or lower alkyl except in the case of R1=R2=R3=H) or its physiologically allowable salts.
EXAMPLE: 6-[ D-(-)-α-( 7,7-dimethyl-4,5-dioxo-1,4,5,6,7,8-hexahydroquinoline-3- carboxyamide )-phenylacetoamide ]-penicillanic acid.
USE: An antibacterial agent. Having a wide range of antibacterial spectacle and effective against gram-negative bacterium, especially against any bacterium of genus pseudomonas. Usable as bactericides.
PROCESS: An ampicillin shown by the formula II, its salt, or its reactive derivative is reacted with a reactive derivative shown by the formula III of quinolinecarboxylic acid to give a compound shown by the formula I. The reaction is carried out in a solvent such as THF. A part of the compounds shown by the formula III are novel.
