Abstract:

PURPOSE: To obtain a novel sulfate ester giving surfactants excellent in hard water resistance, foam stability, safety, and biodegradability and mild for skins, etc.
CONSTITUTION: A compound of formula I (R1 is a 1-23C linear or branched alkyl or alkenyl which may be substituted with OH; R2 is a 1-24C linear or branched alkyl or alkenyl which may be substituted with OH; R3 is SO3M, H, but at least one of R3 groups is SO3M; M is H, an alkali metal, an alkaline earth metal, ammonium, a 2-3C mono-trialkanol ammonium, a 1-5C alkyl- substituted ammonium, a basic amino acid; A1 is CO; A2 is CH2; (n) is 1, 4; or A1 is CH2; A2 is CO; (n) is 1) or its salt, e.g. sulfated N-2, 3-dihydroxypropyl- lauric acid amide. The compound is obtained by reacting a polyhydroxy compound of formula II with a sulfating agent and, if necessary, neutralizing the reactional product with a base.
