To provide an operating device for a control cable that is used in a bicycle gearshift so as to allow the execution of the returning of a control lever to a neutral position by a simple method.
The operating device for a control cable includes: a gearshift lever 131; an internally-toothed crown 114 movable in an angular direction together with a bobbin 112 around which a control cable K is wound; a ratchet mechanism 140; and an elastic means 133 for returning the lever 131 to the neutral position. The ratchet mechanism 140 includes two locker arms 141, 142. In a state that a pointer is engaged with cam-shaped parts of the locker arms 141, 142, toothed regions 147, 148 of the locker arms 141, 142 are separated from the crown 114. If the pointer is disengaged from the cam-shaped parts, the toothed regions 147, 148 are pressed by a pressing means 161 so as to engage with the internally-toothed crown 114.
