Abstract:

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To ensure stable operation of a plasma melting furnace immediately after discharge of a molten metal.
SOLUTION: In a melting furnace body 2 there are provided a furnace chamber 6 into which incineration ash 26 is thrown, and a plasma electrode composed of a main electrode 4 and a furnace bottom electrode 7 both disposed in the foregoing furnace chamber 6. The plasma electrodes 4, 7 heat an article to be melted involving the incineration ash 26 and metal components contained in the incineration ash 26 with plasma arc to produce molten slag 23 and molten metal 24. After the molten metal 24 is discharged from the furnace chamber 6, once temperature of the molten slag 23 measured by a radiation thermometer 13 reaches a previously set lower limit or lower while the molten slag 23 is overflowing from a case outlet 18, throwing of the incineration ash is interrupted or reduced. Hereby, in the case where the incineration ash 26 reaches just under the main electrode 4, the plasma arc of the plasma electrodes 4, 7 is prevented from disappearing.
