PURPOSE: To obtain a new compound useful as a medicine such as an anti- inflammatory agent, an analgesic agent or an antipyretic agent.
CONSTITUTION: A compound expressed by the formula [R1 and R2 are H, halogen, lower alkyl, lower alkenyl, OH, nitro, trifluoromethyl, phenyl, substituted phenyl, pyridyl, carboxyl, lower alkoxy, etc.; R3 is lower alkyl; R4 is OH, lower alkoxy or the formula N(R7)(R8)(R7 and R8 are H or lower alkyl); X is direct bond, methylene or carbonyl; Y is H, halogen, lower alkyl, nitro, trifluoromethyl, etc.; * indicates optical activity], e.g. (+)-2-[3-(4-phenylthiazol-2-ylcarbonyl) phenyl]propionic acid. Furthermore, the compound expressed by the formula is obtained by optically resolving the corresponding (±) optical antipodal thiazole-based compound with an optically active amine such as (R)-(+)-α- methylbenzylamine.
