Title:
OPTICAL CONTROL ELEMENT
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JP3224858
Kind Code:
B2
Abstract:

PURPOSE: To optically provide a NOT circuit and make fully optical logical operation possible by controlling the intensity of light transmitted through an optical transmission medium along variation of control light differing in light wavelength.
CONSTITUTION: The optical transmission medium 10 has low transmissivity and high transmissivity to light wavelengths λ1 and λ2 and transmits light with the light wavelength λ2 when the light is inputted to turn ON. Further, a light generating element 11 when optically or electrically applied with a control input from outside varies in its generation wavelength from λ1 to λ2 or vice versa. Assuming that the oscillation wavelength varies from λ2 to λ1 when a semiconductor laser is used as the light generating element 11 and an impressed current is increased, the light intensity of λ1 becomes larger than the light intensity of λ2 because of the high impression quantity. When the outputs of respective semiconductor lasers are made incident on the optical transmission medium, there is a case wherein the light output of λ1 becomes less than that of λ2 since the light wavelength λ1 is lower in transmissivity than λ2, thereby providing the optical NOT circuit.
