To provide a high-precision optical encoder with reduced influence of waveform distortion, and to provide an optical encoder calibrating device for calibrating the encoder to have such performance.
When calibrated, calibration data are generated, which calibrate waveform distortion by using four-phase sinusoidal voltage signals 181 to 481 having a 90° phase difference outputted from current-voltage conversion circuits 101 to 104 by the optical encoder correcting device, and are registered in a storage means 711 in advance. When detecting angle in actual use, a calibration value calculating means 115 generates calibration lower-bit digital data, by using the calibration data by the optical encoder 999, and an interpolating means 113 generates lower data. Finally, angular data comprising a combination of higher data and lower data are outputted.
