PURPOSE: To allow a terminal station equipment only to prepare an electronic circuit in response to the signal speed to a terminal equipment connected to itself and to relieve the load of an electronic circuit of a terminal station equipment by using optical wavelength multiplex and assiging a signal corresponding to multi-medium in a bus or star type optical network.
CONSTITUTION: At least three optical wavelengths or above are used, one wave is used for packet exchange communication (1st system) for a burst signal, other wave is used for time division multiplex line exchange communication (2nd system) of a continuous signal, and the remaining wavelength is assigned for line exchange communication (3rd system) of a high speed continuous signal. The 1st system is of decentralized control type and a burst data signal from a data terminal equipment and a communication control signal of the 2nd and 3rd systems are sent by packet exchange communication. In the 2nd system, line exchange communication for a continuous signal and a high speed data signal is applied and plural lines are ensured by TDMA. In the 3rd system, line exchange communication for high speed continuous signals is implemented. Moreover, an optical network controller connecting to an optical network uses the 1st system to apply communication control for the line assignment or the like of the 2nd and 3rd systems.
