Abstract:

To provide an optical film containing an aromatic polymer having high solubility in a solvent, to provide a method of producing the optical film, an optical laminate, a polarizing plate and an image display apparatus, each using the optical film.

The optical film contains a polyester having a specified structure. The polyester is preferably a polycondensation product of a bisphenol and an aromatic dicarboxylic acid. It is more preferable that the polyester does not contain a halogen atom. The polyester is not only highly soluble in a solvent, but has excellent heat resistance and birefringence developing property.
