Abstract:
PURPOSE:To obtain the optical material consisting of a high-refractive index resin having a low sp. gr. and excellent impact resistance by polymerizing monomer components of specific compsns. in the presence of a radical polymn. initiator. CONSTITUTION:The polymerizable monomer components consisting of 5 to 94.5wt.% polymerizable monomer consisting of one or >=2 kinds of the polyfunctional (meth)acrylates expressed by formulas I, II, 5 to 94.5wt.% polymerizable monomer consisting of styrene and/or alpha-methyl styrene and 0.5 to 40wt.% polymerizable monomer consisting of unsatd. nitrile are polymerized in the presence of the radical polymn. initiator. In the formula I, R1, R2 respec tively independently denote H or CH3; X denotes formula III, etc.; R3 denotes H, CH3, etc.; l denotes integer 2 to 14; n denotes integer 4 to 14. In the formula II, R4 denotes H or CH3; R5 denotes a satd. aliphat. hydrocarbon group which may contain ether, etc., of valance q; q denotes 3 to 6 integer. The optical material consisting of the high-refractive index resin which is low in sp. gr., is colorless and transparent and has the excellent impact resistance is obtd. in this way.
