Title:
OPTICAL MODULATOR
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JP2010211060
Kind Code:
A
Abstract:

To provide an optical modulator which is made compact by reducing the number of capacitors for a DC block.

The optical modulator of Mach-Zehnder type includes a first substrate made of elctrooptical material on which an arm wave guide is formed and a second substrate on which at least one of a Y-shaped branch part and a Y-shaped multiplexing part connected to the arm waveguide is formed. The first substrate has a first electrode for modulation formed on the arm waveguide and the second substrate has a second electrode connected to the first electrode. The first and the second electrodes are bonded with a dielectric adhesive. In this way, a capacitance is formed for the DC block by bonding the electrodes with the dielectric adhesive. Further, the adhesive is used not only for bonding the electrodes but also for bonding the substrates.
