To provide an optical recording medium capable of achieving high density by realizing the reproduction of a recording mark of an optical limit or below and capable of increasing the number of times of repeated reproduction.
This optical recording medium is provided with: an optical recording layer; a separation layer disposed on the reproduction light incident side of the optical recording layer; and a phase-change reproduction layer which is disposed on the reproduction light incident side of the separation layer and in which light absorbance varies depending on whether the state of the optical recording layer is a recording mark or a space. The state of the optical recording layer is transferred to the large light absorbance part of the phase-change reproduction layer by reproduction light irradiation to form a transfer part, and a part other than the transfer part of the reproduction layer is maintained in a state optically different from the transfer part.
