Abstract:
To inexpensively obtain an optically active tramadol having an opium- like analgesic action by optical resolution of racemic tramadol without causing environmental pollution.
The objective (+)-tramadol enantiomer is obtained by converting racemic tramadol salt, for example, racemic tramadol hydrochloride to its base, adding L-(+)-tartaric acid to the base in an organic solvent, for example, a 1-5C alcohol, to precipitate (-)-tramadol enantiomer. L-(+)-Tramadol enantiomer is obtained by isolating its base and converting it to a salt different from its tartrate salt.
