Abstract:

To provide an optical transmission system that minimizes an increase in a transmission rate, enhances the error correction capability and maintains high channel quality at a low cost.

An SDH(Synchronous Digital Hierarchy) transmission terminal unit 1 includes in-band error correction coding circuits 1a-1-1a-n that apply error correction coding to transmission data according to the in-band error correction coding system, an SDH reception terminal station unit 7 includes in-band error correction decoding circuits 7a-1-7a-n that apply error correction of data coded by the in-band error correction coding system, a WDM transmission terminal station unit 3 includes an out-band error correction coding circuit 3a that applies error correction coding to data by using the out-band error correction coding system, and a WDM reception terminal station unit 5 includes an out-band error correction decoding circuit 5a that applies error correction to data coded by the out-band error correction coding system.
