Abstract:
PURPOSE: To provide an optical waveguide body and its production method which are superior to reduce the power loss of an optical wave as much as possible.
CONSTITUTION: A branch waveguide 2 is provided in a base body 1 having an electrooptic effect to constitute an optical waveguide body G, and the branch waveguide 2 consists of a change area 8, whose width is changed in the optical wave propagation direction, and a branch area connected to the change area 8, and a maximum refractive index in the section orthogonal to the optical wave propagation direction in the change area 8 is approximately uniform in this direction. Thus, the energy of the optical wave is efficiently distributed to branching waveguides even in an angular part formed by waveguides at the time of propagation of the optical wave to plural branching waveguides, and the power loss of the optical wave is reduced as much as possible.
