To provide an organic electroluminescent element capable of forming an intermediate layer between luminescent layers in a simple structure and capable of emitting in high luminance.
An organic electroluminescent element includes a plurality of luminescent layers laminated via an intermediate layer between a positive electrode and a negative electrode. By forming the intermediate layer so as to include bipolarity conductive metal oxide layer and a layer consisting of metal or metal oxide, an electrical connection state of the intermediate layer and the layer (organic layer) which contacts those and has a luminescence function can be improved, or charge separation in the intermediate layer can be performed more efficiently. As a whole, while layers provided between the luminescent layers are minimized, drive voltage can be reduced with stable properties.
