Abstract:

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a material excellent in heat resistance, surface hardness, gas barrier properties and water resistance by cohydrolyzing and copolycondensing a polymer having a polycarbonate or polyarylate portion as a skeleton and a metal alkoxide group as a functional group and a metal alkoxide compound.
SOLUTION: Polymers synthesized by any method can be used. On example of such methods is hydrosilylation of a polycarbonate or polyarylate having functional groups such as an alkenyl group, an alkynyl group and the like and a metal alkoxide compound having a silyl group. The polymer has a number average molecular weight of about 500-50,000. The metallic elements of the metal alkoxide group and the metal alkoxide compound are Si, Ti or Zr, preferably Si. The weight ratio of the polymer to the metal alkoxide compound in cohydrolysis and copolycondensation can be 1:99-99:1.
