Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an original reader capable of improving transport throughput even if one drive source is used to feed, invert, and discharge sheet materials.SOLUTION: An original reader comprises: a transport path; a drive source performing first and second rotational operations; a sheet feed mechanism feeding a sheet material into the transport path by the second rotational operation; a transport mechanism; an original read unit provided downstream of the transport path, and reading an original; an inversion transport path having one end communicating with the transport path between the sheet feed mechanism and the transport mechanism, and having other end communicating with the transport path downstream of the original read unit; a sheet discharge mechanism discharging the sheet material from the transport path by the first rotational operation, and feeding the sheet material into the inversion transport path by the second rotational operation; and a sheet discharge transmission mechanism. The sheet discharge transmission mechanism includes a delay mechanism for cutting mechanical connection between the drive source and the sheet feed mechanism for certain time at a time of switching the first rotational operation to the second rotational operation. The certain time is longer than time until a next sheet material arrives at the transport mechanism.
