Abstract:

To provide an overprint varnish which has great antibacterial and antiviral effects, and gives a printed matter that is difficult to be yellowed with the lapse of time.SOLUTION: There are provided an overprint varnish containing a varnish containing a rosin-modified phenol resin, a dryer and a wax, wherein the overprint varnish contains a titanium oxide containing a crystalline rutile-type titanium oxide and a photocatalyst containing a divalent copper compound, in an X-ray diffraction pattern obtained by plotting a diffraction line strength relative to a diffraction angle of 2θ by Cu-Kα rays, the crystalline rutile-type titanium oxide is a titanium oxide having a full width at half maximum of the strongest diffraction peak corresponding to a rutile-type titanium oxide of 0.65 degrees or less, and 0.1-5 mass% or more of the photocatalyst having a content of the crystalline rutile-type titanium oxide in the titanium oxide of 50 mol% or more is contained; and a paper base material or a plastic base material using the same.SELECTED DRAWING: None
