Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain an aldehyde or a ketone under avoiding an aqueous-a basic conditions by oxidizing a primary or a secondary alcohol in the presence of an organic N-chloro compound and a specific compound.
SOLUTION: This method for oxidizing a primary or a secondary alcohol is to oxidize (C) the primary or the secondary alcohol in the presence of (A) an organic N-chloro compound (suitably trichloroisocyanulic acid or dichlorodimethylhydantoin) and (B) a compound of formula I [R1, R1' are each a lower alkyl; R2, R3 are both H, a lower alkoxy, or one of them is H and the other is hydroxy, a lower alkoxy, an aryl carbonyoxy, etc., or R2, R3 together form a ketal group such as formula II; Y is a group of formula III (X- is an anion), formula IV, etc.]. Further, it is preferable to use 0.05-20mol% of the component C, especially 0.1-1mol%, based on the component (A).
