PURPOSE: To produce a single-phase oxide superconductor not contg. elements very difficult to handle and having stability in air and superior superconducting characteristics.
CONSTITUTION: This oxide superconductor contains an alkaline earth metal M (M is at least one element Ba, Sr and Ca), Cu, O and Cl and has a crystal structure formed by alternately superposing parts each based on two rock-salt structures each consisting of the metal M, O and Cl and infinite layer structured parts each formed by alternately superposing atomic layers in which the ratio between Cu atoms and O atoms is 1:2 and atomic layers of only atoms of the metal M. The number of the infinite layer structured parts is 2n-1 ((n) is an integer of ≥1, and in the case of n=1, the part is atomic layers in which the ratio between Cu atoms and O atoms is 1:2).
