To provide an oxygen pump element suppressing local temperature unevenness.
This oxygen pump element is provided with a solid electrolyte 16, positive and negative electrode membranes 17, 18 on both faces thereof, and a metallic foil member 23, 26 joined to the positive and negative electrode membranes 17, 18. The positive and negative electrode membranes 17, 18 are composed of first electrode membranes (the positive and negative electrode membranes 17, 18) directly joining to the solid electrolyte 16, and a secondary electrode membranes 19, 20 on the first electrode membranes. Glass ceramic membrane 21 is partially disposed on at least one electrode membrane 19 of the secondary electrode membranes, and a resistance 22 for a heater is disposed on the glass ceramic membrane 21. By this configuration, the solid electrolyte 16 can be heated with the resistance 22, and when the area of the solid electrolyte 16 is small, the oxygen pump element can be rapidly heated to an operation temperature required for oxygen ion conduction by a small electric energy without temperature unevenness.
