Abstract:

PURPOSE: To obtain a novel compound having an excellent anti-retrovirus action and useful as a retrovirus infectious disease-therapeutic agent such as an anti- AIDS medicine.

CONSTITUTION: A compound of formula I (A is group of formula II, III, etc.,), e.g. (3aR, Sbiar)-3a,4-dihydro-8,9-dimethoxy-6,7,10,11-bis(methylenedioxy) dibenzo [4, 5; 6, 7] cycl-oocta [1,2-c] furan-1(3H)-one. A compound of formula II in the compound of formula I is obtained by reacting 3-(3,4-methylenedioxy-5- methoxy)phenylmethylbutanolide with 3,4-methyldioxy-5-methoxybenzaldehyde-5- methoxybenzaldehyde and subsequently subjecting the obtained novel butyrolactone derivative of formula IV to a ring-closing reaction preferably by a method using ferric perchlorate and trifluoroacetic acid.
