PURPOSE: To provide a golf shaft made of a fiber reinforced resin which is arbitrarily distributable in weight distribution of a golf club, is adjustable without bulking the volume, is easy to swing for all golfers and has an excellent hitting feel and the process for production of such shaft.
CONSTITUTION: A layer 1 consisting of a metal having a sp. gr. of ≥16 is embedded concentrically when viewed from a section perpendicular to the central axis of the shaft flush with the inside surface of a layer (innermost layer) 4 consisting of the fiber reinforced resin of the shaft 2 or between the layer 4 and an outside layer existing on the outer side thereof. A method of partially winding the layer 1 consisting of the metal having the sp. gr. of ≥16 around a mandrel 3 in the longitudinal direction on the mandrel 3 of the arbitrary place on the axial center of the mandrel, then forming the layer 4 consisting of the fiber reinforced resin in superposition thereof or a method of previously forming the layer 4 consisting of the fiber reinforced resin on the mandrel 3 so as to conceal all the flanks of the mandrel, then forming the layer 1 consisting of the metal having the sp. gr. of ≥16 thereon is adopted to produce the layer 1 consisting of the metal having the sp. gr. of ≥16.
