PURPOSE: To easily repair and renew a sand screen by attaching a locking mandrel detachably to a nipple attached to a packer, a string to the mandrel, and the sand screen to the string.
CONSTITUTION: A production packer 28 which closes the bore of the tubular string 14 of a well casing is attached to an upper tubing string 34 inserted into the tubular string 14. Then a locking mandrel 76 is detachably attached to a landing nipple 24 attached to the mandrel of the packer 28. In addition, a lower tubing string 22 is attached to the mandrel 76 and, at the same time, the upper end section of a sand screen S1 is attached to the string 22. At the time of repairing or renewing the screen S1, the screen S1 is recovered by pulling up a running tool through the nipple 24 after the tool is engaged with the mandrel 76.
