Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a paint formulation which has improved viscosity and residual characteristics and hardly emits an odor by combining a long-oil alkyd resin with a solvent mainly comprising a linear alkane having a specified boiling range.
SOLUTION: This formulation comprises (A) at least one long-oil alkyd resin and (B) a solvent comprising at least one linear alkane having a boiling range between 160°C and 250°C. The solvent can be produced by extracting from a refined hydrocarbon stream having a high paraffin content with a molecular sieve (e.g. zeolite), and pref., the solvent is produced by the Fischer-Tropsch synthesis whereby a hydrocarbon is produced from carbon monoxide and hydrogen at high temp. and pressure in the presence of a catalyst comprising cobalt, etc. supported by a support such as silica or titania.
