To provide a paper feeder for securing safety when replenishing a large quantity of printing paper.

This paper feeder has a placing tray for placing a sheet member, a lifting driving motor rotating by inputting positive electric potential and grounding and lifting the placing tray by reversing the rotational direction by reversing the positive electric potential and the grounding, an opening/closing mechanism for partitioning the inside and the outside by opening and closing, and a switch means for grounding one of a circuit physically inputted and connected to the lifting driving motor by the opening/closing of the opening/closing mechanism.
