Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a paper sheet identification device, a paper sheet handling device and a paper sheet identification method capable of ensuring character recognition performance even if there is any dirt or print misalignment.SOLUTION: The paper sheet identification device includes: an imaging unit that takes an image of identification information given to paper sheets; an entire segmentation section that segments entire region of the identification information included in the image taken by the imaging unit; a digit segmentation section that further segments a region of digit included in the respective identification information in the entire region which is segmented by the entire segmentation section; a recognition section that recognizes a piece of identification information included in a region which is segmented by the digit segmentation section; and a maximum size comparison section that determines the maximum size of one or both of the region segmented by the digit segmentation section and the identification information recognized by the recognition section is within a predetermined maximum size range. When the maximum size comparison section determines that the size is out of the range, the maximum size digit and the estimated region are segmented again and recognized by the recognition section.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 7
