To remarkably enhance the melting loss resistance of a particulate filter.
This particulate filter 10 comprises a filter body 4 made of a porous material in which a large number of flow passages 3 for flowing an exhaust gas 2 therethrough are formed in a honeycomb shape and plug bodies 5, 6 alternately plugging the inlet and outlet sides of the flow passages of the filter body 4. Particulates in the exhaust gas 2 are collected by passing a porous thin wall 7 demarcating the flow passages 3. The plug body 6 at the outlet side is disposed at the position recessed a required length from the out side end to the bottom side of the flow passage 3. The plug body 6 on the outlet side and the filter body 4 at the rear of the front end of the plug body 6 are formed as a heat storage part 11 for uniformizing a peak temperature by receiving the heat generated during the forced regeneration.
