Title:
PASSIVE SAMPLE DETECTION TO INITIATE TIMING OF ASSAY
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JP2003262604
Kind Code:
A
Abstract:

To provide a method and an apparatus for extremely accurately, efficiently, and speedily detecting as to whether a sample applied to an electrochemical test strip is present or not.

The present invention provides the method and the system for passively and automatically detecting the presence of the sample (the 'sample detection phase') upon application of the sample to a biosensor, identifying the sample detection time and then initiating the measurement of a targeted characteristic, e.g. the concentration of one or more analytes, of the sample (the 'measurement phase'), immediately upon sample detection. The method and the system do not use or involve the application of an electrical signal from an external source to an electrochemical cell for purposes of performing the sample detection phase and are, thus, less complicated and involve fewer steps and components.
