To obtain a pearl gloss gent that is stable with time and is useful in the production of cosmetics having pearl-like gloss without limitation in its formulation.
The objective gloss agent is obtained by using an ether of the formula: R1-O-R2 (R1 and R2 are each a 16-36C hydrocarbon) such as dibehenyl ether as an active ingredient. When a variety of cosmetics are produced, this gloss agent can be used by admixing it to the objective cosmetic compositions, dissolving with heat, and cooling down the solution under stirring thereby precipitating fine sizes of crystals having pearl-like gloss. In another case, the gloss agent is heated and dissolved in an aqueous medium so that its concentration may become high and then cooled down under stirring to form a dispersion of fine flake crystals having pearl-like gloss and formulated to cosmetics. In preferred embodiments, the formulation of this ether to cosmetics is 0.1-20 wt.%, particularly 1-5 wt.%.
