To obtain a pedometer which can increase the walking will of a user by giving the user a feeling of accomplishing his purpose by displaying an area selected from previously inputted data in a displaying section and, at the same time, by successively changing the color of the picture elements in the area of the displaying section whenever the number of steps of the user reaches a prescribed value by counting the number of steps.

The CPU 18 of a pedometer displays an area walking game mode, a number-of-step mode, or a walking distance mode selected from a program stored in a ROM 19 in a displaying section 2 and performs arithmetic processing on a number of steps inputted form a number-of-step detecting means 12. When a user selects the area walking game mode, the blank map of one block is displayed in the displaying section 2. When the user starts walking by wearing the pedometer, the number of steps of the user detected by means of the detecting means 12 is inputted to a microcomputer 1 and the CPU 18 starts the arithmetic processing by counting the number of steps. When the number of steps reaches a prescribed value (for example, 100), one of the picture elements in the map is colored in black and, whenever an added number of steps reaches a prescribed value, the remaining picture elements are colored in black.
