Abstract:

To provide a pencil lead that has high strength, gives writers a smooth writing feeling, and is easily sharpenable, and thus is used for mechanical pencils and wooden stem pencils, and to provide a method for manufacturing the same.

The pencil lead includes a surface to which the c-axis face of a graphite crystal is exposed. The methods includes a method for manufacturing pencil lead including a process to expose the c-axis face of a graphite crystal by grinding a pencil lead before baking, and then by baking, or a method for manufacturing pencil lead including a process to expose the c-axis face of a graphite crystal by machine working the surface of the pencil lead after the baking, and other methods.
