Abstract:

To provide a chemical recycling method for a magnetic tape with a high temperature-high pressure methanol for obtaining monomers of a polyester decomposition product by thermal decomposition of a magnetic tape recording medium of a polyester base film in a high temperature-high pressure container.

In the chemical recycling method for a magnetic tape with a high temperature-high pressure methanol, a magnetic tape recording medium collected or discarded is disassembled physically for sorting and taking out a reeled magnetic tape. After unwinding the reeled magnetic tape bulkily, the core reel is discarded. The magnetic tape unwound bulkily is introduced into a reaction container for applying heat and pressure to the reaction container. With subcritical methanol of a high temperature range of 100°C or higher and lower than 240.5°C and a high pressure range of 1 MPa or higher and lower than 8.09 MPa, the polyester of the base film resin of the magnetic tape unwound bulkily is thermally decomposed for taking out the decomposition product of the base film resin dissolved in the methanol to the outside of the vessel.
