PURPOSE: To obtain a perfume composition having strongly diffusing properties, fragrance retaining properties, compatibility with all perfume materials, showing excellent properties as compounding perfume, having a fruity aroma, containing an effective amount of 2-methyl-4-phenylpentanal.

CONSTITUTION: A perfume composition which contains an effective amount (about 0.1W95wt.%, preferably about 1W20wt.% based on total amount of aromatic composition blended) of 2-methyl-4-phenylpentanal shown by formula I, is different from an existing perfume material, provides citrus fruit peel-like aroma recalling aroma of grape fruit, lime, orange, etc., and is suitable for changing aroma of compounding perfume by modifying or enhancing aroma of the perfume material. The compound can be synthesized from a compound shown by formula II and a compound shown by formula III through a compound shown by formula IV by a well-known method and the compound having ≥97% purity is preferably used.
