PURPOSE: To obtain a sustained release suppository maintaining medicinal effects for a long period, being produced by simple operations at low manufacturing cost, having low irritation to skin and mucosa, by blending fats and oils solid at normal temperature with a hydrogenated phospholipid to control of release of drug.
CONSTITUTION: (A) 100pts.wt. fats and oils solid at normal temperature such as higher fatty acid triglyceride, laurin fat, cacao butter, beef tallow, etc., is blended with (B) 10W250pts.wt., preferably 55W160pts.wt. hydrogenated phospholipid having preferably 0W60 iodine value obtained by hydrogenating a phospholipid or a neutral lipid-containing phospholipid extracted from egg yolk, soybeans, etc., by a conventional procedure to give a sustained release suppository controlling release of a drug such as ibuprofen, indomethacin, flufenamic acid, etc., exhibiting medicinal effects only for a relatively short time, frequently causing side effects because of rapid transfer in the body and having the above- mentioned effects.
