To provide a permanent magnet rotor with less cogging torque and reduced in cost involved in manufacturing and management.
The internal rotation type permanent magnet rotor 1 is configured such that a permanent magnet 5 is attached to a rotary shaft 2 or the external peripheral surface of a rotor yoke 3 engaged and fixed to the rotary shaft 2, and a protective ring 4 is arranged on the external peripheral surface of the permanent magnet 5. Projections 4a each having a magnet housing 4b inside are formed to the protective ring 4 at equal intervals. Three or more rod-shape permanent magnet pieces 5a, 5b and 5c are aligned in the circumferential direction, and housed and fixed in the magnet housing 4b. The magnetic force of the permanent magnet piece 5b at the center is made higher than the magnetic force of each permanent magnet piece 5a, 5b at end sides.
