Abstract:
To provide a phenol resin composition for a friction material high in mechanical strengths and hardness, excellent in toughness, and capable of gaining a high friction coefficient.
This phenol resin material contains a hydroxybenzaldehyde-modified novolak phenol resin and hexamethylenetetramine. Preferably, in the hydroxybenzaldehyde-modified novolak phenol resin, 3-90 mol% of aldehyde-derived, substituted methylene groups (CHR, R is a substituent) are hydroxyphenyl groups.
