Abstract:

To obtain a new compound that has higher herbicidal ability against weeds with higher stability tan the conventional.

This new compound is a phenylacetylene derivative represented by formula I [X is H, a halogen, a 1-6C alkyl, a haloalkyl; Y is H, hydroxy, a halogen, cyano; Z is H, a halogen; m is 1, 2; R is H, a halogen, a 1-6 alkyl; Q is formula II (R2 is H, a 1-6C haloalkyl)], typically 3-[5-ethoxy-4-(1-ethynyl)-2- fluorophenyl]-1-methyl-6-trifluoromethyl-2,4(1H,3H)-pyrimidinedione. This derivative is prepared, for example, by reaction of 3-(4-bromo-5-ethoxy-2-fluorophenyl)1- methyl-6-trifloromethyl-2,4-(1H,3H)-pyrimidinedione with trimethylsilylacetylene in the presence of a palladium catalyst and cuprous chloride.
