Abstract:
PURPOSE: To obtain a photochromic body with its color reversibly changing by the action of light and excellent in weatherability, stability, etc., by forming, on the surface of a carrier material, a silicon dioxide film contg. an org. photochromic compd. dispersed therein.
CONSTITUTION: A photochromic soln. obtd. by dissolving an org. photochromic compd. (e.g. a fulgide compd. of the formula) in an org. solvent is mixed with an aq. hydrogen silicofluoride soln. saturated with silicon dioxide. A carrier material is immersed in the mixture to precipitate silicon dioxide together with the photochromic compd. on the surface of the material to thereby form a silicon dioxide film contg. the photochromic compd. dispersed therein on the surface, thus giving a photochromic body.
