PURPOSE: To provide a photocomposer capable of easily printing diversified characters composed of an image orthicon, CRT, digitizer, buffer memory, diversification processing circuit and output control circuit.

CONSTITUTION: To prepare a diversified character such as a double-lined character, pattern character with shade, etc., at first a selected character on a character board is photographed and its information is decomposed into dots of black and white by a digitizer 12 and such dots are memorized in No.1 buffer memory 13, and then the memorized data are sent into No.2 buffer memory 14 and they are processed by various types of diversification process at a diversification processing circuit 15 and then processed data are sent to and memorized in No.3 buffer memory 18. Data thus treated by diversification process are sent from No.3 buffer memory 18 to an output control circuit 16 and they are displayed on a CRT11 for display. After the content of the displayed data is confirmed, the information is printed by a CRT10 for printing and at the same time, the data are sent to a refresh memory 17 and they are written down in such positions corresponding to print positions.
