To provide a photoelectric conversion device and an image pickup system capable of reducing a difference of a dark current between an effective pixel region and an optical black pixel region.
The photoelectric conversion device of a first aspect of this invention having the effective pixel region for outputting a pixel signal and the optical black pixel region for outputting a black reference signal comprises a photoelectric converting unit; a light-shielding layer provided over the photoelectric converting unit and having area per pixel different in the effective pixel region and the optical black pixel region; and a first material layer arranged along a lower surface of the light-shielding layer respectively in the effective pixel region and the optical black pixel region, and formed by a first material having a reflection coefficient lower than that of the light-shielding layer and a hydrogen storage capability higher than that of the light-shielding layer. The area per unit pixel of the first material layer is smaller than that of the light-shielding layer in the optical black pixel region.
