To provide a photoelectric conversion element of high photoelectric conversion efficiency, and to provide a solar cell that use the photoelectric conversion element.
The photoelectric conversion element includes at least a semiconductor layer that absorbs light in a wavelength range of 350 to 1,000 nm and a charge transfer layer, with both layers being formed between a first electrode and a second electrode that face each other; the semiconductor layer has a transmission wavelength in the wavelength range; the charge transfer layer has a charge-transfer complex composed of an electron donating compound and an electron-accepting compound; the charge-transfer complex absorbs a light of a wavelength equivalent to the transmission wavelength of the semiconductor layer. The solar cell is also provided.
