PURPOSE: To contrive higher workability at the time of actual printing by performing editing operations such as inputting rules and correction while looking at a display device in a simulation mode.
CONSTITUTION: After an input designating a simulation mode is given through a keyboard 42, a desired pattern is selected from rule patterns on a matrix 32, and then the matrix 32 is moved. Data of the selection of the pattern is given to a CPU 50 by a position sensor 34 which outputs an X coordinate and a Y coordinate. With a parameter for the kind of rule inputted through the keyboard 42, the CPU 50 stores the output from the position sensor 34 into a RAM 54 as MX(n) and MY(n), and reads line width data F(n) from a line width table in the RAM 54. Then, a display signal is calculated based on the kind of rule, the parameter, line width data, etc., and a display is given on a CRT 2. In this manner, a circle 70 is inputted, straight lines 71-81 are inputted by similar operations, and they are displayed on the CRT 2. Next, an input designating an editing mode is given through the keyboard 42, and the rules to be edited are selected. That is, the lines 73 and 74 are deleted, and the line 72 is moved.
