To obtain a piezoelectric ceramics free from lead, by which a large piezoelectric strain constant can be obtained and to further obtain a piezoelectric ceramics having a large piezoelectric strain constant low in temp. dependency.
A piezoelectric ceramics contains Ba, Bi, Na, Ti and O, and molar ratios of Bi/Na and Ba/Bi are given by the following equation, respectively: 0.997≤Bi/Na≤1.003 and Ba/Bi=2x/(a-x), wherein 0.99≤a≤1.01 and 0<x<a. The piezoelectric ceramics is obtained by wet-mixing prescribed amounts of BaCO3 power, Bi2O3 powder, Na2CO3 powder and TiO2 powder, drying the obtained slurry, calcining the dried slurry, further adding an organic binder, a dispersant and ethanol to the obtained calcined material, wet mixing the obtained mixture, drying the obtained slurry, granulating, forming, subjecting the formed body to CIP(cold isostatic pressing) and firing.
