PURPOSE: To extinguish the idling time of a continuous rolling line by providing the top and bottom gates which are pivotally fitted an end on each shaft of a top and bottom pinch rolls and equips guide rolls being turnable above and below the strip passing face respectively.

CONSTITUTION: A pinch roll device 10 is equipped at the inlet side of the upstream side down-coiler 120 of a continuous rolling line. The top gate 9 and bottom gate 5 of which an end is pivotally fitted on each shaft of the top pinch roll 3 and bottom pinch roll 5 and guide rollers 11, 17 are provided on the other ends are equipped. Both the gates 9, 5 are turned by turning means. And the top gate 9 is turned above the passing face of a strip S1 and the bottom gate 5 is turned below the passing face of the strip S1. Thus the preparation time for the delivery of the strip nose following to the start and completion time of coiling of the strip between each down-coiler on the upstream and downstream sides.
