Abstract:

To provide: a piston including a wear resistant ring capable of reducing a weight while keeping strength against wear of the wear resistant ring; and an internal combustion engine using the piston.SOLUTION: A piston includes: a piston main body portion provided with a piston head; and an annular wear resistant ring disposed along an outer peripheral surface of the piston head in a direction orthogonal to a moving direction of the piston and provided with a ring groove for housing a piston ring. The wear resistant ring has at least a first annular wear resistant ring portion on a side closer to a crown surface of the piston head and a second annular wear resistant portion on a side farther from the crown surface, which are arranged opposed to each other across the ring groove, and one of the first annular wear resistant ring portion and the second annular wear resistant ring portion is formed so that thickness in the moving direction of the piston increases as approaching an outer peripheral surface of the piston being an opening end of the ring groove.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 4
