Abstract:
To provide a piston ring that achieves superior sealing and no risk for coating peel-off at a gas tight lock.SOLUTION: The piston ring has a ring body, a diameter, a height, an upper ring surface, a lower ring surface, an outer ring surface (12), and an inner ring surface. During operation of an engine, the outer ring surface slides on an inner side of a cylinder liner. The piston ring further has a first engaging end portion (8) and a second engaging end portion (9) at a ring section that allows expansion and contraction of the piston ring. The first engaging end portion comprises a circumferentially extending finger (13), and the second engaging end portion comprises a circumferentially extending recess that is shaped and sized for displaceably receiving the finger. A tip of the finger is provided with a gap area, in which only the end portion (9) with the recess constitutes part of the outer ring surface sliding on the cylinder liner.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 4
